Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Cindy Birdwell

Mrs. Cindy Birdwell graduated from Green Ridge R-VIII in 1972.  She went to college in Warrensburg at University of Central Missouri.  She continued her education at Central Texas College earning an Associate’s Degree.   She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education with an emphasis in Business in 1978 from American Technological University. Upon returning to Missouri Cindy completed the Missouri requirements for a teaching certificate.  Mrs. Birdwell taught Junior College classes and Adult Education Classes while traveling with her husband that was a pilot in her early years of teaching in Texas.   Cindy took an administrative role as Director of Education at the Mansfield Business School in San Antonio, Texas, before moving into public education in the East Central Independent School District for 2 years in the middle school.  During the 1999-2000 school year Mrs. Birdwell joined Otterville R-VI.

Cindy has taught different business classes throughout the years starting with shorthand and electric typewriters to now computer classes.  Her favorite is Business Technology where the school yearbook is created.  Cindy has held many positions in organizations at Otterville to include Community Teachers/Staff Association, Professional Development Committee, and Handbook Revision Committee. She has been honored to have been selected as the Otterville Outstanding Educator twice and once at Chilhowee.  She has also been a member of the Missouri Business Educators Association, National Business Educators Association, Missouri Association for Career and Technical Education, Missouri State Teachers Association, Central Business Teachers Association, and Missouri School Board Association. Mrs. Birdwell has been a class sponsor with the seniors most of the time, Yearbook, and Newspaper Adviser.

Mrs. Birdwell feels that her greatest accomplishment at Otterville R-VI is her involvement with the Otterville Future Business Leaders of America Chapter. There has been four sets of members place at Nationals in the top eight along with Ryan Siegel and Ben Morrison as National FBLA North Central Regional Vice President. The number of members that continue to strive for that goal each year continues to amaze her.  She enjoys her travels each year with the members and the fun opportunities they share to include fundraising and working late nights in preparation for various events.  She has had the opportunity to work with many parents and community members in Otterville and is very appreciative of the support for her students and the organization.

Mrs. Birdwell's husbands name is Scotty. They have three sons.  During Cindy’s parenting years she was involved in various activities with her sons to include Green Ridge Parent/Teacher Organization member, room mother, and officer. She was a project and club leader for Van Natta 4-H Club, First Baptist Sunday School Teacher, choir member, and Royal Ambassador Leader, along with Smith Cotton Football Booster officer, and served on the Green Ridge Board of Education. Being a mom has great memories she will always cherish, but being a grandparent to seven grandclchildren is the greatest joy in her life right now.

Mrs. Birdwell enjoys the water to include but not limited to boating, swimming, and canoeing.  She also enjoys reading, embroider work, gardening, flowers, outdoors, living on the family farm, and shopping.  Cindy was asked at the Professional Development Day in September to state her professional goal in five words. She stated, “Be All You Can Be.  Each year in education is a learning experience with new opportunities for all.  Thank you for allowing me to be a part of the Otterville R-VI family.”
